1. Detailed Instructions
Step 1: Select Your Bet Type
Choose your desired bet type from the dropdown menu. Options include everything from Single bets to complex combinations like Trixie, Patent, Yankee, and Goliath.
Step 2: Adjust the Number of Selections (Optional)
You can manually choose the number of selections between 1 and 20 in the Number of Selections dropdown for accumulator bets.
Step 3: Enter Your Stake
Enter your Stake Per Line in the provided field. This is the amount you are betting on each combination. The calculator will automatically compute the total stake depending on your bet type and the number of lines it involves.
Step 4: Each Way and Rule 4 (Optional)
- Each Way: If you're placing an each-way bet, select "Yes" from the Each Way? dropdown. This will split your stake into win and place parts, and the calculator will factor in the place odds.
- Rule 4: If there are Rule 4 deductions (e.g., in horse racing where a selection is withdrawn), enable the Rule 4 option. You can then apply the relevant percentage deductions to each selection’s odds.
Step 5: Fill in Your Selections
For each selection, fill in the following:
- Outcome: Choose from Winner, Placed, Lost, or Void.
- Odds: Enter the odds for each selection in decimal format (e.g., 2.50).
- Place Odds: If you're placing an each-way bet, you'll be asked to provide the place odds divisor for each selection.
- Rule 4: Apply a Rule 4 deduction (if relevant) to the odds.
Step 6: Results
Once you've entered all your selections, the calculator will instantly display:
- Total Stake: The total amount you're betting across all lines.
- Total Return: The total return you'll receive if all selections win.
- Total Profit: Your net profit after subtracting your total stake from the total return.
2. Bet Types, Each Way Betting, and Rule 4 Explained
Bet Types
Single: A bet on one selection. If the selection wins, you win the bet. It is the simplest form of betting.
Double: A bet on two selections. Both must win for the bet to succeed. If one loses, the entire bet is lost.
Treble: A bet on three selections. All three must win for the bet to pay out.
Accumulator: A bet on four or more selections. All selections must win for the bet to succeed. Accumulators can offer significant returns due to the multiplication of odds.
Trixie: A combination bet involving three selections. It consists of 4 bets: 3 doubles and 1 treble. At least two selections must win to guarantee a return.
Patent: A combination bet involving three selections. It consists of 7 bets: 3 singles, 3 doubles, and 1 treble. Even one winning selection guarantees a return.
Yankee: A combination bet involving four selections. It consists of 11 bets: 6 doubles, 4 trebles, and 1 four-fold accumulator. At least two selections must win to guarantee a return.
Canadian (Super Yankee): A combination bet involving five selections. It consists of 26 bets: 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 four-folds, and 1 five-fold accumulator.
Heinz: A bet with six selections consisting of 57 bets: 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-folds, 6 five-folds, and 1 six-fold accumulator.
Super Heinz: A bet with seven selections consisting of 120 bets: 21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 four-folds, 21 five-folds, 7 six-folds, and 1 seven-fold accumulator.

Each Way Betting
Each way betting is popular in horse racing and some other sports. An each-way bet is essentially two bets in one:
- Win Bet: A bet on the selection to win.
- Place Bet: A bet on the selection to finish in the top places (e.g., 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.).
When you place an each-way bet, your stake is doubled: one half goes on the win bet, and the other half on the place bet. If the selection wins, both parts of the bet are paid out. If the selection places (but doesn’t win), only the place bet is paid out, often at reduced odds (e.g., 1/4 or 1/5 of the win odds, depending on the event).
Rule 4 Deductions
Rule 4 is applied in horse racing when a horse is withdrawn from a race after the market has been formed. Because the remaining horses now have a better chance of winning, their odds are reduced to reflect this change. The Rule 4 deduction is applied as a percentage based on the odds of the withdrawn horse.
Here’s how Rule 4 deductions work:
- Odds 1/9 or shorter: 90% deduction
- Odds 2/11 to 2/17: 85% deduction
- Odds 1/4 to 1/5: 80% deduction
- Odds 3/10 to 2/7: 75% deduction
- Odds 2/5 to 8/15: 70% deduction
- Odds 8/13 to 4/7: 65% deduction
- Odds 4/5 to 4/6: 55% deduction
- Odds 5/4 to 6/4: 45% deduction
- Odds 2/1 to 5/2: 30% deduction
- Odds 3/1 to 4/1: 20% deduction
- Odds 9/2 to 11/2: 10% deduction
Rule 4 only affects the odds, and not the stake or number of bets. In the bet calculator, you can apply Rule 4 to each selection if necessary.
