2024-09-10 1945:  Hitchin vs Bishop's Stortford

Hitchin unlikely to produce fireworks

After a weekend of mixed fortunes, near-misses, a few good bets and some outright bad ones, we are looking for a turnaround as this new week gets underway and we’ve picked some lower-league English football down-south to begin the rebound.

With Hitchin goalless in 12 from 16 and this Bishop’s Stortford side not scoring in 10 of their last 18, this doesn't look, on paper, like a match that will deliver plentiful scoring chances.

A lacklustre Bishop’s Stortford goal-tally has resulted in them being on the wrong side of the result in 13 of their last 14 away games. They have scored only five times in their last 13 away games now and their odds-on price approaching 2/1-on is one to avoid.

However, they are looking for a third consecutive win here on Tuesday and it seems unlikely Hitchin will prevent them from achieving that. We think The Bishops can keep the hosts honest at Top Field and at odds-against (5/4), the No side of the Both Teams To Score market is a bet worth considering. If they fail to deliver on their short-price favouritism, then this bet will have us covered.

Hitchin come into this game having scored a maximum of one goal in 16 of their last 18 matches. With eight consecutive defeats, they can be backed at 10/3, with the draw 3/1. None of these 1X2 prices are worth looking at, but the BTTS No price of 2.25 with Betfred will be our play in this Southern League Premier Central Division clash.

2024-09-09 1900:  Lesotho vs Morocco

Africa Cup of Nations qualification

Although Morocco have already secured a spot in the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations as the host country, they continue to participate in the qualifiers. They opened with a commanding penalty-filled 4-1 victory over Gabon on Friday, while Lesotho struggled in their first match, falling 3-1 to the Central African Republic a day earlier.

Barely inside FIFA’s top-150, Lesotho is not a side we would normally go out of our way to watch and by all accounts they were lucky to keep that defeat to CAR on Thursday to just a 2-goal margin. With no injuries or suspensions to contend with and without the luxury of a deep bench, they are likely to stick with the same starting lineup for this.

Meanwhile Morocco, who finished fourth in the 2022 World Cup, were impressive according to the scouts who witnessed their four-goal haul on Friday. The betting is predictably lop-sided with the 1X2 offering prices around 22/1 Lesotho, 6/1 the Draw and 1/12 Morocco.

Morocco have a deep pool of players that they can switch in for this match that has been priced-up as if it was a training-ground routine walk-in-the-park for them. In front of their own fans at the Adrar Stadium and with no pressure to qualify, an outclassed opposition, and coming off a decent result just days before this one, it feels like the type of game in which they may experiment with tactics and formation. In such clashes, it is not unusual for the unlikely underdog to have some success against the overwhelming odds.

Lesotho have found the back of the net in their last four starts. They might just spoil the party and share the spoils. A correct score price of 18/1 is available for a 1-1 draw but we won’t be going for that.

Instead we are taking the BTTS Yes at 3.30 with betway, for some unlikely headlines near the Atlas Mountains on Monday night. Those odds suggest there is a 30% chance of goals from both teams. Our data says it is greater than that.

RESULTS

In the last few weeks, the highest odds picked in these previews was the decimal odds of 9.00 for the winning bet on Home Win 4-0 in the Harju JK Laagri vs Levadia U21 match. There was also a less impressive loss when David's Daily previews picked the short odds of 1.53 for Home in the Dinamo Minsk (W) vs Peamount (W) game.
